Lansdowne Park Horticultural Building

Ottawa, Ontario , March 2016

This historic building had multiple RTU’s on three roof levels requiring yearly maintenance by mechanical personnel with no safe access to get to them. A notice was given that the RTU’s would be shut down if safe access was not provided.

The roof membrane was brand new and under warranty, meaning that roof penetrations were out of the question. Due to the design and age of the building any extra weight on the roof had to be minimal.

The owner and architect, being aware of our expertise and capabilities, approached Skyline Group to discuss these issues and find a solution.

Skyline Group proposed lightweight modular aluminum non-penetrating systems. Budgets and tender documents were submitted for review and the color for the system chosen. The tender was closed and awarded to the contractor, shop drawings supplied and approved, product powder coated and delivered for the contractors to install, all within four weeks.

“Their systems are light in design - both in terms of weight and visual impact - and this is important when dealing with sensitive properties. Because of their design-build capacity, they can provide quick and flexible solutions.”
