How important is a rooftop walkway?
Published On : 2016-06-30
Walkway is an often overlooked component of roof safety. However, a walkway with guardrail is required for access to elevator shafts and non-slip walkway is required for access to roof top HVAC equipment (see our article on TSSA Rooftop Clearance), and what building doesn’t have these?!
In Ontario, for rooftop walkway to be to code, it must be at least fifty-five centimetres in width (R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 851, s. 17.), and in certain situations may require one- or two-sided guardrail.
The 6001 Series Aluminum Walkway is a lightweight and non-corrosive walkway system that complies with all North American standards and regulations.
- Non-penetrating system suitable for steel roofs and standard flat roofs.
- Possible to install without guardrail.
- Can be supplied as sheets of walkway to be assembled (steel roofs) or welded modular sections for assembly on common flat roofs.
